Heatley Residence

This heritage house was originally constructed in 1899 in the Strathcona area of Vancouver. It was uninhabited and barely standing when a new owner wanted to restore the home to its former glory while adding a secondary suite.

Located kitty corner to McLean park, the home is a significant architectural anchor on a heritage streetscape. The small lot size required thoughtful and strategic planning and zoning variances, collaborating with the city closely to design a home that increased housing density while maintaining a nod to history. To achieve this, the existing structure was lifted to provide a secondary suite below, dormers were added to the upper floor and a new patio extends living space to the outdoors.
