Vancouver Special Upgrade

An unfinished basement in this original, 1960s Vancouver Special provided the perfect amount of space for this family to sprawl as their kids matured.  Instead of lifting the house, the design brings the ground down to maintain character, draw in light, and connect the family to the backyard garden.

The interior design was a collaborative process between the owner (also an architect) and IMA - providing modern and thoughtful storage, large family gathering space, and separate sleeping spaces for their growing children.
